KARACHI: Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik, has said that the present government was following the policy of reconciliation and consensus in the larger national interest.

Talking to media at the Jinnah International Airport here before departing for Islamabad, the Minister said that PPP government led by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, always intended to take all the coalition political parties in confidence.

“It is the confidence and trust that the PPP and MQM arranged peaceful funeral of former convener of MQM Dr. Imran Farooq,” he said.

He had all the praise for the IGP Sindh, the CCPO Karachi and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) for arranging the peaceful funeral.
“PPP always supported MQM during the crisis period and will extend its cooperation in future also,” he said.

Responding to the question about the attacks in Dara Adamkhel, the Minister said that whoever did it was not supposed to be a Muslim and that hired killers were hatching conspiracy to destablise the government.

“Our government is working in unison to tackle the problem of terrorism,” Malik said.

He praised the role of Pakistan Army in fanning out terrorism in tribal areas and added that the back-bone of Taliban has been weakened.

To a question about the tenure of the government, Federal Minister said that mandate of people should be respected and the present government should be allowed to complete its 5-year term.

“We have inherited many problems which are being resolved on priority basis by the present government,” Malik added. -APP
