ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday directed the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) for details of loans written off during the last two years within an hour.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was hearing the suo motu case of written off loans.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar remarked: “Why don’t people realise their responsibilities? The court cannot teach everyone.”
He further said to the State Bank of Pakistan’s counsel Iqbal Haider that judges were not afraid of working under the Constitution and that the bank should also operate confidently within constitutional perimeters.
The court wants to know who were granted loans, Chief Justice Iftikhar said, adding that only eight out of the summoned 50 who had their bank loans written off appeared before the court.
